Brattle Book Shop
Best Used Bookstore in Boston · MA
Two centuries of used books and an outdoor lot
The Brattle Book Shop, founded in 1825, is one of America's oldest and largest antiquarian bookstores. Three floors of used and rare books rise above downtown Boston's West Street, and on fair-weather days the shop spills into an adjacent lot lined with dollar and bargain carts under a mural of literary giants.
Run by the Gloss family for generations, the Brattle is a Boston institution for collectors and browsers alike — a place where a first edition and a two-dollar paperback share the same block, and the hunt is half the point.
