Especially “is this real?”
Skepticism about business awards is well earned. Here are the straight answers.
The basics
Is this real?
Yes. The criteria are published in plain language — read exactly what we look for before you decide anything. Selection is by the criteria: there is no panel and no judging committee. We don’t publish the exact data points or thresholds, because publishing them would invite gaming, but we tell you in plain English what concepts we evaluate. Two people run this program, and we say who we are.
How do I get evaluated?
You may already be on the record. We review public evidence across markets and may publish a listing from that research before anyone applies. If you haven’t been contacted and you think your business clears the bar, check eligibility or nominate it. Nominating and evaluation are free. Owners of a research-published listing can claim it or ask us to remove it.
Why is a business listed if it never applied?
Some pages are published by us from the public record when the evidence clears the published criteria. That is how the directory got started, and it is disclosed in our Terms and Privacy Policy. Those listings are not paid placements. If you own a listed business and want the page managed or taken down, use the claim link on the page or email info@mr-centurion.com.
Can I nominate a client’s business?
Yes. Consultants and agencies nominate client businesses all the time. The evaluation is the same one every nominee gets: it’s free and it runs on the public record. If the client qualifies, claiming and publishing the award (and its $199 processing fee) is the owner’s decision, not yours. On the form, tick ‘I’m nominating on a client’s behalf’ so we know who we’re talking to.
Who decides the winners?
The methodology. No panel, no judges, no editorial committee. A human reviewer QAs the scan data and can correct a misidentified business or ask for a scan to be re-run, and every manual change to a result is stored beside the automatic one with a written reason in the audit log.
Does it cost anything?
Nominating and being evaluated are free, and selection is not for sale. If a business qualifies and chooses to publish its award through the application path, there’s a flat $199 processing fee, charged only after the verdict is in, and refunded in full if the application isn’t approved. Some listings appear from our research without an application or fee. Auto-renewal is optional: you can opt in at checkout and cancel anytime, and if you don’t, you pay once and nothing recurs. The dated page stays live either way.
Winning & what you get
What do I actually get if I win?
Four things that match what operators usually pay other “best of” lists for, with no hoops:
- A dated winner page on this domain (the verified record, the evidence, and a link to your website).
- A printable certificate for your records.
- A digital badge and asset kit: graphics, image variants, and captions for your site and socials.
- Something to point people at. The winner page has its own permanent address, so you can link it from your website, your listings, your email signature, and your posts.
A framed plaque is available on request as a separate add-on, quoted before you order. It is not part of the processing fee.
Will my winner page show up in Google search?
Not yet, and that is deliberate. While we prepare the program’s permanent home, every page here asks search engines not to index it. Your dated page and your asset kit go live the moment you publish, and the page is public, so the link works for anyone you send it to.
How long does the application take?
Minutes. The eligibility evaluation is the real work, and we already did it using public data. The application is short and 100% digital: confirm your business details and set your public display name. From application to live winner page is typically one business day. There is no second judging round — the criteria already decided.
What if my business doesn’t clear the bar?
We never post negative verdicts. If we communicate the result to you, we name the qualitative criterion that fell short (for example, years in operation or established customer track record) and tell you what you can do to improve. You’ll be re-evaluated in next year’s run.
Your award over time
How long does a Centurion Award last?
One calendar year — January 1 through December 31. To remain a current winner, your business must clear the bar again in the January re-evaluation and renew for the new year. Annual renewal is what keeps the credential meaningful.
Can I claim past years?
Yes, if you were eligible. When you accept a current-year award, eligibility for earlier years is checked from the same public evidence (domain registration, archive history, your verified founding year), and each eligible past year can be claimed as its own dated winner page, issued from your current verified record with no separate evaluation.
Can a Centurion Award be revoked?
Yes, in narrow circumstances: later evidence that the public signals we evaluated were manipulated, material falsehoods in the application, or misuse of the Centurion mark. Winners have a 14-day appeals window from notice. When we revoke an award for cause, we say so publicly and we date it. A listing that comes down for an ordinary reason (the business closed, it was sold, or the owner asked us to take it down) is simply removed, with nothing posted about it. Accountability is part of what makes the award worth trusting.
Fairness & integrity
I didn’t ask to be listed. How do I claim or remove my page?
Every listing is published from public evidence, and the business it names stays in control. The “Own this business?” link on the page verifies you with an email address publicly listed for the business, and the portal it opens lets you correct the listing or remove it right away. Removal takes the page down for good, and we don’t charge a business that doesn’t want to be listed. If the only public address for your business sits on a review or social profile, email info@mr-centurion.com from that address and we’ll verify you by hand.
Why is this not pay-to-play?
Pay-to-play sells the selection. We do not. Selection is by published criteria you can read before deciding anything, and the criteria are the gate: either you clear the bar or you don’t. We describe the criteria in plain language and keep the exact data points internal so the bar can’t be gamed.
Are there tiers?
No. Every winner in a city and category for a year is recognized as best of that town in their category for the year. No Gold, Silver, Bronze. No number one. No top five. No upsell ladder.
Why do award titles differ inside one category?
Every award is a specific, dated title that names one business, and the title is written to describe what that business actually is. The directory sorts those titles into broader categories so you can browse a city, but a category isn’t one prize with one winner. A single city can hold “Best Downtown Breweries” and “Best Meaderies” at the same time: different titles for different businesses, each with its own dated page. The bar behind every title is identical, and no business holds more than one award in a year.
Can I sponsor a category or buy a placement?
No. There are no sponsored categories and no paid placements anywhere on the site.
